Abstract

This chapter evaluates the decadal country experience of institutional changes in water resources management in Bangladesh. A framework proposed by Livingston is used to articulate the potential and need for future water institutional changes in Bangladesh. Existing property rights regimes and collective choice arrangements for water resource management are discussed to articulate the pressure for, and obstacles to institutional change in the water sector. Institutional changes to ensure that integrated water resources management is implemented successfully are an imperative. These institutional changes are essential for policy makers and practitioners to gear policy changes to enhance rapid progress to better manage existing water resources in Bangladesh.
