Transesterification products from the metathesis reaction of palm oil

Abstract

RHA (rice husk ash) treated CPO (crude palm oil) was metathesised using a WCl6/Me4Sn catalyst system and quenched at 70°C with THF and various alcohols. The catalyst activity was prolonged when CPO was pretreated. Quenching at 70°C increased the yield of alkyl esters. Methanol is the best quenching reagent for producing esters from the reaction. Diesters cannot be identified in the metathesis products of CPO except when it was quenched with methanol.
