Thermal comfort assessment in large scale hospital: Case study in Malaysia

Abstract

A field study on the environmental condition and occupants' thermal comfort has been carried out in Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM). This hospital is equipped with an air conditioning system. This study was conducted in two occasions in September 2010 and April 2011 to get variation of temperatures and also collecting the rest of objective measurements. The environment factors collected were ambient temperature mean radiant temperature, relative humidity and air velocity. Then the thermal comfort of patients was assessed by using ASHRAE seven point scale, predicted mean vote (PMV) and predicted percentage of dissatisfied people (PPD). This study reveals that during the day time patient ward is "slightly cool" to "cool" and during night time it is "cold".
