The importance of interfaith dialogue: In the context of Malaysia

    Abstract

    The world nowadays is changing gradually in terms of education, economic, governance, and so on. Even, the community gradually expands and lives in multiracial situation. Instead of living in the same place such a 'peace community', the violence and misunderstanding still happens among them. In order to prevent the violence or misunderstanding happened among the multiracial people, the writer believes that the interfaith dialogue is the best way in making mutual understanding between the different faith, race, ethnic and others especially in Malaysia. Therefore, based on the ongoing thesis entitle The Interfaith Dialogue in Malaysia: The Role of Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) and Islamic Information and Services Foundation (IIS), this article emphasizes on the importance and the goal of the interfaith dialogue to be practiced by all religions without exemption. Besides, it also emphasizes on the ethic and the principle of the interfaith dialogue that should be known by the participants of interfaith dialogue. The writing method of this article is based on the text analysis from the reading materials on the topic. The outcome from the article shall expose on how necessary the mechanism of the interfaith dialogue should be practiced by the multiracial community especially in Malaysia.
