    Abstract

The essential oils of the fresh rhizomes and leaves of Curcuma inodora aff. from Malaysia obtained by hydrodistillation were analyzed for the first time by a combination of capillary GC and GC/MS. This resulted in the identification of 55 and 32 components, comprising 89.3% and 66.9% of the rhizome and leaf oils, respectively. The major components of the rhizome oil were curzerenone (20.8%), germacrone (11.1%), curdione (7.5%), 1,8-cineole (5.3%) and ß-eudesmol (4.6%); that of the leaf oil were curzerenone (16.9%), germacrone (7.5%), 1,8-cineole (5.3%) and farnesol (5.0%).
