Abstract

Hybrid photovoltaic thermal (PV/T) collector is device that simultaneously converts solar energy into electricity and heat. This paper presents an experimental study on the influence of mass flow rate on PV/T performance. The hybrid system consists of photovoltaic cell pasted directly on the absorber with fins attached at the back of the absorber. The effect of mass flow rates on performance of the photovoltaic, thermal, and combined PV/T collector over range of operating conditions was discussed. Results at solar radiation of 600 W/m2 and inlet temperature of 35°C show that the combined PV/T efficiency is increasing from 49.135% to 62.823% at mass flow rates various from 0.0316 to 0.09 kg/s.
