Abstract

This article discusses speech communication strategies of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. The speech contains 34 paragraphs and 101 sentences that hold strong to their individual privileges. The theoretical framework that underlies this study is critical discourse analysis. Accordingly, the author explains a dense leadership process that is practical leadership. The specific aspects discussed is how the leaders to collaborate the discourse to attract the attention of the public, especially members of the party involved. The strength in their arguments will convince the audience and people on his efficiency in leading the party. It is simply appropriate if this discourse is labelled as leadership discourse as the speech presented is inclined towards leadership discourse to strengthen the position of the utterer as the leader of the party. Leadership and language is literally like, flesh and nail that cannot be separated because a good leader has to be rhetoric to lead a strong party. Research results revealed that the speech uttered in the event that aims to strengthened relationship amongst them will highlight the utterer as a leader. In relation to this, this article intends to faciliate towards understanding the social process that is happening in the society. Thus, based on critical analysis theory it is clearly proven that the speech discourse of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah carries along his practical leadership qualities.
