Abstract

This paper reports a survey which was conducted in order to determine the teachers' perception (N=1230) of science laboratory learning environment in secondary schools and its relationship with teachers' satisfaction. Teachers' perception of learning environment was measured by using the Science Laboratory Environment Inventory (SLEI) and teachers' teaching satisfaction was measured using the Test of Related Science Attitudes (TORSA) which was adapted to measure teachers' satisfaction. The findings showed that teachers perceived the learning environment experienced by students learning in the laboratory as positive. Findings also reveals that there exists a relationship between teachers' perception of science laboratory learning environment and their satisfaction in teaching science. In particular, teachers find satisfaction in teaching science in laboratories when laboratory materials and equipments are adequate. An implication is that to encourage teaching that promotes active learning and hands on learning, teachers need to be equipped with the adequate laboratory equipments.
