Abstract

The research work undertaken involved in finding correlation between ultrasonic signals and stress signals through engine block condition monitoring. Ultrasonic sensor is for ultrasonic signals while the strain gauge is for stress signals. Two experiments will be carried out for each of the sensors on the engine block to monitor the inside condition of cylinder block which is the interaction between piston and cylinder block. Type of engine used in this experiment is 4G- 15 petrol engines. Two experiments are going on with different devices. The ultrasonic signals and stress signals collected are used for process analysis and be compared to each other by using MatLab software. The analysis methods included time domain analysis, frequency domain analysis, and I-kaz™ analysis. The research work concludes with a brief discussion on correlation of two signals and possible of combine these two sensors to develop a more effectively engine condition monitoring method.
