Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the implementation of quality control in three Malaysian companies and identify the factors that influence the selection of quality control techniques in these companies. We reported three case studies in selected companies. An interview has been made with Quality Manager in each company. The motivating factors for the companies to apply quality control come internally from the management and parent company or externally from customer. The selection of quality control techniques to be applied in these companies is influenced by three factors: ease of use of the technique; ability to measure product specification fulfillment; and ability to improve critical quality and productivity problem. We discuss how practitioners and policy makers could select quality control techniques and overcome some difficulties and problems in its implementation. In this paper, we also identify the contributing factors to the selection of quality control techniques.
