Slope stability analysis for plane failure under the influence of a tension crack

    Abstract

    The significance of tension cracks for the stability of slopes has been widely recognized. This study is based OB the Flame Failure model for the analytical solution of rock dopes in which the upper slope surface and the tension crack are inclined. In the present paper an attempt has been for made to correct and modify (Ms approach. Application of the analytic solution for rock slope stability analysis for an overburden slope at Air Laya coal raining site PT.Dakit Asam, Tanjnng Enim, Sumatera, Indonesia is discussed. The application of the calculated analytic solution of the safety of factor for dry and saturated condition in the tension crack is carried ont This indicates that the factor of safety increases considerably as the angle of tension crack inclination increases. The factor of safety decreases from dry conditions to saturated conditions.The height of water in the tension crack will have a significant influence on factor of safety. For the influence of earthquake conditions, is was found (hot the factor of safely Increases considerably as angle of tension crack inclination increases.This method is very significant in determining the critical location, depth and angle of the tension crack.
