Simple mass transfer experiment using nanofiltration membranes

Abstract

A simple experiment using a nanofiltration (NF) membrane for determination of mass transfer correlations at the feed side of the membrane cell is described. The experiment introduces the students to the concept of concentration polarization, separation due to charge of ions, and overall performance of an NF membrane. Experimentally, the students are able to determine the mass-transfer correlations.
