Shaping the right fit perceptions of academe newcomers

Abstract

Public universities of Malaysia play premiere roles in realizing the national aspirations to generate first class human capital, promote the banner of lifelong learning and create new knowledge as well as innovations. Being part of the tertiary ecosystem, it is very important to study new academics perception on their abilities to cope with the job challenges. Along with that, it is also crucial to look investigate the congruence of the universities' visions with the academics needs as incongruence could lead to matters of job dissatisfaction. Based on the principles person-environment perspective, a qualitative. study has been conducted upon 23 now academics in three Malaysian public universities to investigate current situation. As results revealed the importance of both person-job fit and needs-supplies fit perceptions onto work adjustment, competency and job satisfaction of these academics, recommendations of several interventions were made to the university managements for their actions.
