Product inspection using computer-aided acceptance sampling for SMEs

Abstract

In this study, we investigate effective ways to select a sample that represent the whole production lot, to be used in accepting sampling procedure. We also want to minimise the time and effort to design the sampling plan, and the risk of accepting the bad lots and rejecting the good ones. A computer-aided acceptance sampling has been designed and developed for these purposes. The system calculates the probability of lot acceptance based on the identified operating characteristic (OC) curve. The system shows the exact probability of lot acceptance using Binomial distribution. The system aims at assisting small and medium industries in Malaysia to use the proposed sampling plan to determine accurate number of product items to be inspected. It also helps them to identify the corresponding critical acceptance value, in order to make reliable decisions. Besides that, this system also stores and checks records in the designed database.
