Potential ionophores for detection of metal ions using new tris-allyl thiourea

Abstract

Two new tris-allyl thiourea have been successfully synthesized by reaction of allyl isothiocyanate with tris(2-aminoethyl)amine and diethylenetriamine respectively. The structures of the tris-allyl thiourea were characterized by using FTIR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Their preliminary binding studies with selected metal cations (Mn2+, Sn2+, Hg2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Cu2+ and Ag+) were carried out using UV-Vis spectroscopy. Both tris-allyl thiourea exhibited good affinity towards Hg2+, Ag+, and Cu2+.
