Poly(hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate) hydrogel matrix for phenol biosensor

Abstract

This paper discusses the use of poly(hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate) (poly(HEMA)) hydrogel as a matrix for tyrosinase immobilization in a biosensor for the detection of phenolic compounds. A two-electrode system, i.e. a combination of working electrode and a Ag/AgCl (3M KCl) reference electrode was used for the construction of the biosensor. Screen printed electrodes were used as working electrodes for these study. The responses of the biosensor containing poly(HEMA) membranes with tyrosinase immobilized towards phenol, catechol and m-cresol were examined.
