Physical and transportation elements of traditional street in Malaysia

Abstract

Apart form playing the most role as channel for communication, the street also generates outdoor activities that are vital for the visual introduction of the urban dwellers. This paper will discuss on physical and transportation elements in traditional street in attracting visitor as perceived by users. Kuala Lumpur city centre was chosen as a case study because it has been identified as the places appropriate to examine the study. This is because it still has it own unique identity with metropolitan development which mostly old part of the town can be feeling until today. For example; sense of belonging and meanings. Three traditional street as case study have been identified in Kuala Lumpur city centre, namely; Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Masjid India and Jalan Petaling. The study applies mix methodology where qualitative methods play an important role follow by quantitative method.
