Abstract

Lately, service sector is the major contributor to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Malaysia. Tourism sector is one of the contributors in service sector through hotel, transportation, entertainment and recreation. Besides that, this sector also contributed GDP to other sector through expenditure by tourist such as domestic transportation fare expenditure, shopping and food. However, there are various local and global issues existed in this region and has caused some effect to this sector. Among, the important issues are the existing of SARS, tsunami disaster, terrorism attack in Indonesia and Thailand and also the increase of oil price. From all the above, the question is whether both the local and global issues give any significant impact to consumer or tourist demand and whether it will effect the GDP of tourism sector? Therefore, this study tries to investigate these problems and also look at the consumer and tourist needs in general towards factors that effect their demands. For this purpose, descriptive analysis was done on tourism sector data in Malaysia to look at the overall trend. Besides that, this study was also done at Morib Beach recreation area onto the local tourist. This study shows that attraction factor such as view and house distance has significant relations to selection or decision to visit the place.
