Performance evaluation of node mobility and varying group density on Long Lifetime Multicast Routing Protocol in MANETs

Abstract

Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is a rapid changing network architecture that is organized from a collection of mobile nodes. In MANETs, there is no central infrastructure, and the mobile nodes can move randomly. This leads to an increase in routing problems. This paper evaluates the performance of node mobility and varying group density in Long Lifetime Multicast Routing Protocol (LLMRP). LLMRP is mesh-based protocol proposed for multicast routing in MANETs. Some parameters were used to evaluate the performance such as multicast route lifetime, packet delivery ratio, the average end-to-end delay, and control packet overhead. Different scenarios execute with varying group densities and node mobility via NS2 simulator. The simulation result shows that LLMRP outperform ODMRP in terms of multicast route lifetime. Moreover, LLMRP produces more than 96% of packet delivery ratio (PDR) with different mobility speeds and more than 97.3% of PDR with different multicast group sizes.
