Abstract

In this study, the effect of the size and shape of a V2O5 solid phase catalyst on the ozonolysis reaction of oleic acid was investigated using V2O5 nanorods, nanoparticle and bulk V2O5. The catalytic reaction successfully produced azealic and pelargonic acids and results showed that nanorod V2O5 has the highest selectivity (83%) for azealic acid. V2O5 nanoparticles had only 37.3% and 33.3% selectivity for azealic and pelargonic acids respectively. Bulk V2O5 had 48.3% and 5.2% selectivity for azealic and pelargonic acids, respectively. The highest yield in the ozonolysis of oleic acid was observed for the V2O5 nanorods.
