Optimization of medium composition for chitosan production by Absidia butleri dr using Response Surface Methodology (RSM)

Abstract

The optimization of medium composition for production of chitosan by Absidia butleri dr was investigated using Response Surface Methodology (23 factorial design). Three variables were chosen to study their enhancement on the yield of chitosan in shake flask culture. The variables involved in this study were glucose, peptone and yeast extract. The optimized medium composition was 11.8 g/L of glucose, 18.95 g/L of peptone and 3.15 g/L yeast extract and chitosan was produced at a rate of 0.149 mg/200 mL. It is almost 50% higher than the unoptimized medium.
