Abstract

An optical transceiver design for an all passive POF portable optical access-card system is presented. The portable optical access-card system includes a portable device with an optical code generating device and a transmitter/receiver system that generate the light signal and de-codes the transmitted codes. The portable optical access-card system will utilized Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) waveguide coupler device that is embedded in the portable device itself. The optical card uses a simple coding technique of light signal transmitted from a Light Emitting Diode (LED) or laser, where the light signal is coded using a 1 × N POF waveguide coupler. The Transmitter circuit utilize simple LED circuit together and a receiving circuit using light-to-frequency converter chip.
