Numerical study of zigzag micro mixer with 3d channel dimension

Abstract

In this paper a micro mixer device with 3D channel dimension is simulated and analysed. Typical planar zigzag micro mixers (ZZM) with the angle of intersection 30°, 60°, and 90°are first simulated using FEM analysis to study its mixing performance. Then, the zigzag micro mixers are modified into 3-dimensional zigzag micro mixer (3DZZM) by moving up 0.1mm several channels. The results show that 3DZZM with 60°angle of intersection revealed the highest mixing index performance which is above 98% in all ranges of Reynolds numbers. This study can be used as a guidance in designing a passive micro mixer for various biomedical device applications.
