Abstract

High-speed data exchange is motivated by Smart applications proportionate to high bandwidth demands for different types of data. The multi-wavelength converter on Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) is considered as an adequate solution to meet high-capacity requirements for existing and future access networks. Wideband steady-state model is considered to simulate and investigate one-to-many wavelength converter based on cross-phase modulation in SOA. The scheme Combine 1490 and 1550 nm wavelengths each with four selected continuous wave source over standard Passive Optical Networks for downstream broadcast. The outcomes of the proposed method indicate that the capacity can be upgraded from 20 Gb/s to 100 Gb/s, with an increase in the maximum number of access points from 128 to 640, each with 156.25 Mb/s bandwidth. Moreover, a 1:16 splitting ratio provides each client 625 Mb/s for the total number of users of 160. In addition, conversion efficiency and bit error rate measurements confirm and validate the modification method. The presented system provides an excellent model of saturated SOA and has many advantages, such as small size, integration, easy fabrication, coexistence with existing infrastructures and high functionality, which have a positive effect on the capacity of current and new access networks.
