Abstract

A detailed numerical model to predict the buildup of cylindrical preforms in the Osprey process is described. A sensitivity study confirmed the importance of chamber design factors such as the direction of spray on to the end of the preform, scanning amplitude, and scanning frequency with respect to preform rotation. The nature of the scanning motion was also found to have a profound influence on the shape of the preform end. PM/0672.
