Metal binding protein in Anabaena flos-aquae as heavy metal biosensor

Abstract

Anabaena flos-aquae were exposed to cadmium (Cd), manganese (Mn) and arsenic (As) to determine the 96hLD50 for each metal. The respective 96hLD50 of the metals was found to be 0.15, 0.57 and 0.83 ug/ml. These concentrations were then used for exposure tests to the cultures as previously done. SDS-PAGE technique for protein profile was carried on the extracted protein. Results showed that bands produced by proteins exposed to Cd, Mn and As showed similar bands as compared to that in Mn.
