Abstract
The concept of social presence has been the popular topic of investigations by many researchers in the field of online learning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to measure groups of hybrid online Malaysian students who registered in online courses with regard to their level of social presence. A total of 358 participants were involved in this study via a cross-sectional survey. One-Way Analysis of Variance was used to analyse the social presence construct based on Community of Inquiry model. The findings show that a statistically significant difference was found among the three groups of students who completed certain number of online courses offered in a university. A follow-up using Post hoc test indicates that the first pair of a group completed more than five courses and a group completed two to four courses and the second pair of a group completed more than five courses and a group who completed less than two courses differed significantly in their social presence. The effect size social presence and number of courses in both group are medium or typical. These have proven us that the familiarity and experiences of learning management system provided by a university are very essential to the online learning success.
