Measurement of a post-amplified CWDM system performance with EDFA-SOA amplifiers

Abstract

This paper describes the performance measurement of a Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) system with Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier-Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (EDFA-SOA) in post - amplifier configuration. The results are acquired from experimental work where 8 CWDM channels ranges from 1471 nm to 1611 nm wavelengths are being transmitted and the total link distance is 65 km. The proposed amplified system causes a great increase in the measured input power to the receiver subsystem compared to when no amplifier has been utilized. The proposed amplified system is useful to support the transmission in metro access network (MAN) scenario.
