Managing sustainable campus in Malaysia - Organisational approach and measures

Abstract

The environmental pollution and degradation caused by consumptions of energy and materials in Universities are getting greater concerns not only within the community in universities but also from the larger publics. The efforts in managing the ecosystem stand from the enormous opportunities that can be gained in adopting systems based integrated approach and design towards sustainable campus. The physical environment of the university-its landscape and buildings-must also support and enhance the excellence of its academic programs. This paper hopes to shade some light on the concept of sustainability in campus, a review of the widely used practices for achieving sustainability and the organizational approach and measurement of technical improvement towards sustainability.
