Abstract

Desiccant dehumidification is the technology for dehumidifying of the air by absorbing the moisture from it. When the moisture absorbs, the air is dehumidified and became most suitable for cooling purpose in humid and hot climates. For this reason, the liquid desiccant dehumidification technology is proposed as an alternative to the traditional vapour compression systems due to its advantage in, removing the air latent load, friendly environment, removing of pollutants from the process air and reduction the electrical energy consumption. This chapter surveys and reviews the liquid desiccant dehumidification concept in air-conditioning system. The chapter first introduces the traditional air-conditioning system. In addition, the principle of liquid desiccants systems is included. This chapter also provides the combination of the liquid desiccant unit with the vapour compression, vapour absorption, direct and indirect evaporative units.
