Laparoscopic ovariopexy for paediatric pelvic malignancies

Abstract

Ovariopexy can prevent radiation damage to the ovaries in children undergoing pelvic irradiation, and should be considered prior to radical curative radiotherapy. We report two children who have had successful laparoscopic ovariopexy, and advocate its use in conjunction with local radiotherapy in childhood malignancy. It reduces iatrogenic trauma significantly and assists with staging and managing paediatric pelvic malignancies.
