Abstract

Technological developments have affected the platform of information flow. Construct reporting on issues such as liberalization of religion has simultaneously experienced dynamic changes among media practitioners. Growth and press portal of information delivery trend has caused various reactions and responses among Malaysians. This article highlights Berita Harian and The Star portal constructs in reporting issues of liberalization of religion in Malaysia in identifying the dynamics and direction of reporting. Content analysis method (effective 1st January 2015 until 31st December 2015) was used with a focus on portal Berita Harian and The Star. Justification for the choice of both portals are based on the distinctive ownership of the newspaper and target readers. This study has identified the news reporting constructs in delegating information on the issues of liberalization of religion to society in the context of Malaysia, either positive, negative or neutral. Results showed that the effect of the ownership of newspapers can influence methods of news reporting in the attempt to make the target audience understand.
