Abstract

A multi-ethnic in Maluku is richness, but the same time worries. On one side presents a hope, but also bring social tensions-cultural significance. Experts criticized some of the work of post-conflict peace yet touched the real needs of the public. But the local governments are so confident with the work program based on peace multiculturalism as a solution. This paper attempts to look critically at the concept of peace multiculturalism, by leaning on the context of everyday life of Muslim excombatants Ambon in 1999. This study shows that the notion of multiculturalism which is used as a paradigm of peace in Maluku considered very problematic in theoretical as well as practical. Theoretically, a claim for recognition of various ideologies of nationality and the rights of a national minority as the primary mission of multiculturalism potentially give conflicts between ideologies, especially with nationalism which contribute significantly to expel colonial past. As for the political recognition of the existence of certain ethnic groups, especially the group of "national minorities" who have the ability to liberate themselves only to raise the desire of separatism thrives on Maluku earth. In praxis, multicultural peace program which is claimed to restore the lives of the local wisdom "basudara" only appears on the surface. Local knowledge people of Maluku is inherent and can not be engineered. Together with such noble values; tolerance, mutual respect among religions, can continue maintained for justice and the welfare of the population is a major concern Maluku without manipulation and political engineering inside.
