Information Technology and Education

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

Considers the impact of information technology on learning and teaching. Briefly describes the Cyclops and CAVIS interactive computer systems used in some secondary schools and Open University programmes in the UK and Europe. Outlines a scenario for the use of information technology in education in Malaysia, which aspires to be an industrialized nation by the year 2020 under the Vision 2020 programme outlined in 1992. An experimental Computer-Integrated Learning System (COmIL), is being developed at the school level under a project of the Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems and the Ministry of Education. This has three components: an authoring system, a database applications system and a network applications system. Teacher education programmes will have to keep pace with the development of this new innovation.
