Abstract

Health literacy is a vital skill that everyone needs in order to understand health information properly. A person who has good health literacy is able to find, understand and use health-related information in daily life. Health literacy has become a very important topic in contemporary health care sector, health promotion, health education and the development of health policy. This study aims to determine the influence of health literacy towards health information seeking behavior among Malaysian university students. The research design of this study is quantitative by using a questionnaire as a tool for data collection. The instrument of this study has been adapted from health literacy model by Sorensen et al., (2012). The survey instrument has good reliability values ranging from 0.810 to 0.890. A total of 1,025 respondents from university students comprising four zones have been involved in this study. In general, the results showed that the level of health literacy among Malaysian university students is moderate. Results also showed that 23.6 percent of the studied factor contributed to health information seeking behaviour model. This reflect that health literacy is important factor in the contexts of health information seeking and. Thus, a lot of efforts needs be done in order to raise the level of health literacy among students as it will have an impact on the self-health management and as well as a key determinant of the quality of good health.
