Abstract

This paper presents a relatively new meta-heuristic optimization technique known as the Lightning Search Algorithm (LSA) for developing an optimal proportional-integral (PI) voltage controller for a piezoelectric energy harvesting system (PEHS) converter. In the conventional PI voltage controller, a trial and error procedure is normally used to obtain optimal values for the proportional gain (Kp), and integral gain (Ki). This procedure is time consuming and does not conduct to suitable solutions. To overcome the exhaustive traditional trial-and-error procedure, the LSA optimization algorithm is proposed for obtaining optimal Kp and Ki values for the PI voltage controller.
