Abstract

The requirements for intelligent interfacing between the ultimate end-user and network management applications is investigated. The end-user network management functions require manipulation of the same data for different network management activities. The intelligent interface is a unified approach whereby multiple focused group orientations of network management activities can be provided across the same data set. Such group orientations are illustrated by the approach taken in specifying network management activities versus network management functions. Finally, the use of orientations as concrete examples of network management activities are presented, and it is concluded that focused but intelligent interfacing for network management is best accommodated by advanced information technology and techniques.
