Abstract

Fatigue-life prediction of magnesium alloys based on a fracture mechanical approach was made, where the pit depth for an etruded AZ61 at high lumidity and the inherent defect diameter for a die-cast AZ91D were assumed as an initial crack. As such, fatigue-strength tests of the extruded magnesium alloy AZ61 were carried out with round-bar specimens at 20°C, 55% RH and 50°C, 80% RH. Prior the fatigue tests, the tensile poperties of extruded AZ61 were evaluated at 20°C, 55% RH and 50°C, 80% RH.
