Fast handover proximity for heterogeneous cellular networks

Abstract

The increase in popularity and pervasiveness of mobile wireless networks is facing the challenge of integrating a potentially large number of heterogeneous wireless technologies to provide efficient handover schemes and flawless mobility. Fast handover proximity entity (HOPE) is a scheme introduced to support fast and efficient handovers in heterogeneous cellular networks. The proposed method demonstrate how the new scheme take only half of handover time as against what was obtainable with legacy handovers. Also recorded is a speed of 1/3 higher than what is obtained in legacy handover. Results obtained show that fast handover proximity help in reducing not only the handover latency, but also the end-to-end latency for MIP in frequent handover environment. This is beneficial for the integration of heterogeneous networks and a solution for viral content data transfers.
