Abstract

Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are advanced systems and currently a leading power source technology. SOFCs are appealing because they offer high power conversion efficiency, reliability, fuel adaptability and environmental friendliness. In general, SOFCs consist of electrodes (anode and cathode), electrolyte and interconnects. The cathode in particular was highlighted in this research to improve the performance and material compatibility of SOFCs. This paper reviewed the fabrication parameters generally involved in determining the microstructural characteristics of cathode materials for SOFCs. Several fabrication methods to produce cathode materials for SOFCs were reviewed. Finally, at the end of this paper, state-of-the-art cathode materials for SOFC applications were suggested for further study.
