Abstract

Technologically supported research methods enable accuracy to prevail in many researcheswhich indirectly serves the subject community a much justifiable generalization. Despite the legitimacy of qualitative approach of auditory impression in documenting endangered languages for description, where the researcher acts as the sole determiner of the phonemic system, problems may arise when debatable phonemics of the languages were documented. Although adequate hours of field training may be feasible, acoustic analysis may assist and strengthen findings thus suggesting precise and conclusive findings despite of time, perseverance and perfection required. Adopting a quasi-naturalistic method of data collection where language in use was recorded over the span of several weeks, some of the venerable Batek Hep' Aslian vowels were analyzed using PRAAT software. Findings suggest that solid foundation in basic Aslian language features accompanied with acoustic analysis may aid in producing accurate determination of a language phonemic system for young linguists and thus may lead to better descriptive generalization.
