Estimation of the shape and scale parameters of the pareto distribution using extreme ranked set sampling

Abstract

Estimation of the shape and scale parameters of the Pareto distribution is considered. Several estimators will be considered including the method of moment, maximum likelihood estimator, modified maximum likelihood and uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators as well as several Ad hoc estimators. These estimators are studied under simple random sampling (SRS), ranked set sampling (RSS), median ranked set sampling (MRSS) and extreme ranked set sampling (ERSS). It is found that the estimators based on ERSS are more efficient than their counterparts based on SRS.
