Estimation of gastric emptying time (GET) in clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) using X-radiography technique

Abstract

This study examines the movement of food item and the estimation of gastric emptying time using the Xradiography techniques, in the clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) fed in captivity. Fishes were voluntarily fed to satiation after being deprived of food for 72 hours, using pellets that were tampered with barium sulphate (BaSO4). The movement of food item was monitored over different time of feeding. As a result, a total of 36 hours were needed for the food items to be evacuated completely from the stomach. Results on the modeling of meal satiation were also discussed. The size of satiation meal to body weight relationship was allometric, with the power value equal to1.28.
