Elemental substitutions and formation of Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10-δ superconductor

Abstract

Preparation methods of high density (over 80% of theoretical value) of Tl2Ba2Ca2Cu3O10-δ (2-2-2-3) superconductor are discussed. Samples were investigated by dc electrical resistance and X-ray powder diffraction analysis. Compounds with nominal starting compositions Tl2Ba2(Ca1.8M0.2)Cu3O10-δ, where M = Al, Cr, La, and Y, were also prepared and these elements generally suppressed the 2-2-2-3 and enhanced the 2-2-1-2 phase formation.
