Effects of γ-Fe2O3 on the transport critical current density of (Bi1.6Pb0.4)Sr2Ca 2Cu3O10 superconductors

Abstract

The critical current density of (Bi,Pb)Sr2Ca2Cu 3O1 superconductors was investigated. Magnetic nano-particles of maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) of about 50 nm in radius were used to act as pinning centers in the superconductor. The transition temperature, microstructure, and x-ray diffraction pattern were reported. The addition of γ-Fe2O was found to enhance the transport critical current density measured at 77 K of the superconductor.
