Abstract

The effects of process variables on melt velocity profiles in an extrusion process were studied. The effects of melt temperatures, the screw and die geometry and the output rate from the extruder were also studied. A thermocouple mesh sensor coupled with a cooled stainless tube was used. The results show that the speed of extruder screw has the main effect on the magnitude of the melt velocity.
