Abstract

A good relationship between the community and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) is able to translate into the right collaboration scenario in maintaining national sovereignty. This study was conducted to identify the extent to which WhatsApp application has been used to influence the relationship between the community and the Seremban PDRM. This study uses quantitative methods through questionnaires distributed to 250 civilians in Seremban District, Negeri Sembilan. Respondents of the study consisted of those aged 18 years and above and communicate via WhatsApp with any Seremban District Police Officer. The findings show ease of use and benefit of using WhatsApp is crucial in building a good personal relationship between the community and the police. The study also shows that the society really needs interaction and relationship with PDRM. The interaction between society and the police is very important as relationship ties are the key to building a harmonious society. This study demonstrates that the creation of social media applications have widened the landscape of online systems usage to bridge the gap between users. This study also proposes qualitative methods such as in-depth interviews and focus group discussions in future studies. This approach enables to explore in depth issues relating to personal relationships through social media applications.
