Development of zero ODP rigid polyurethane foam from RBD palm kernel oil

Abstract

The refined-bleached-deodorized (RBD) palm kernel oil was derivatized using polyurethane technology by combination with polyethylene glycol under basic conditions. Polyurethanes are block copolymers containing blocks of low molecular weight polyesters or polyethers covalently bonded by a urethane group. The derivative, polyurethane foams were characterized based on their apparent densities, compression strength, dimensional stability and water absorption.
