Development of dengue detection and prevention system (Deng-E) based upon open data in Malaysia

Abstract

In this digital era, Government all over the world have started utilizing Internet especially the social media to create awareness and educate their citizens especially in health related issue. In order to achieve the target as a Smart Digital Nation by year 2020, Malaysia have introduced the National Transformation Programme by implementing Open Data initiative aiming at creating an open and free Government. While heading towards a digital nation, there are internal threats that still limit the progress especially the dengue infection which claims hundreds of life every year. It is imperative that an alerting mechanism be made available to the public to prepare them in taking necessary action before the outbreak. By providing open real life data, it is anticipated individuals or organization can take advantage by producing lifesaving application. In this research, a web based solution to support the community against dengue outbreak is designed. This solution is Deng-E, a web based system which provides real life statistical analysis and prediction on dengue outbreak for the community.
