Determination of arsenic in biological samples by cathodic stripping voltammetry

Abstract

A study of the electrochemical behaviour of arsenic in lumatom (a commercially-available, digesting liquid) in the presence of different organic solvents and different supporting electrolytes has been carried out.It was found that small amounts of arsenic(III) could be determined by cathodic stripping voltammetry in a lumatom/methanol/0.1 M HCl solvent mixture. The presence of Se(IV) or Cu2+ ions permitted the determination of trace levels of arsenic. The method has been applied to the direct determination of trace levels of arsenic in oyster tissue.
